ALEKO® BC002 Large Steel Cage

At first glance this looks like the ideal cage for your cockatiel.  It is a nice size measuring in at 20x20x69.  The space between the bars is ideal.  It has a tray at the bottom that can be pulled out for cleaning and it has removable water and food plastic dishes.  Being removable makes them very easy to clean.

You can put this cage inside or outside as the waterproof roof will keep the rain out.  One last great feature is that it comes on wheels which makes it easy to move around.  The wheels lock so your cage, if placed on a slight incline, will not roll away on you.  This does seem like the perfect cage.

So I am ready to hit the buy button but then I decide maybe I should look at some customer reviews.  Who better to tell me about this cage then a fellow bird owner who purchased this cage.

This cage may look great and its description is outstanding but customers who bought this cage did come across some disturbing issues with this cage.

Customer complaints ranged from broken feeder and water dishes to missing hardware.  Even with the missing hardware customers persevered trying to put this cage together.  There next roadblock was that the instructions on how to assemble the cage were not very good.

Some customers found that the perches that came with this cage did not fit properly and needed some adjustment to get them to fit just right.

Another complaint that was rather interesting was the door design.  Many customers were not happy with the design, saying if you had to reach inside and get something off the bottom of the cage it was quite a struggle.  For a smaller person it may just be impossible to reach the bottom of the cage through the cage door.

Other customers complained that the walls were pretty flimsy and upon arrival you could see that they were rather bent.  Although this was not major as many customers were able to work around this when putting the cage together.

One major complaint was that there was paint chipping off of the cage.  This could be dangerous to any bird as the paint chip if swallowed could cause your bird harm.

So even though customers thought that this cage was poorly made and it had missing parts and broken parts, those that could worked around all of this and kept the cage.

As one fella said “There were missing screws, accessories were broken.  I had to go to home depot for screws and then put it together the best that I could.  Once built I loved the cage.”

Personally I would not recommend this cage unless you have someone in the family that is very good at putting things together and is able to overcome unforeseen obstacles.  It is too bad because overall it is a great looking cage with lots of room.

Hmmmm I really appreciate your honest opinion about this bird cage, but it sounds like a really unreliable piece of equipment.

I mean missing parts, broken dishes and feeder is bad enough. But then when you factor in the door design complaints as well, I really cannot imagine a situation where I would purchase this.

Do you know anyone who purchased thus cage and was happy with it?

There were some people that did like the cage. They were able to fix broken parts and replace missing parts. So for someone able to fix up this cage if it arrives damaged it can be a great cage, otherwise stay clear!

Oh wow!!!! Very informative post!!!!!!!! I really like how you talked about all of the good aspects of the cage and then went into the customer reviews. I also like how you explained why certain points were really bad in regards for the health of your bird. I love how at the end you gave your recommendation. I feel that you really explained why you do not recommend the cage and how bad you felt about not being able to do so.

Yes I really did like the look of this cage. I thought it would be the perfect cage to put outside for my cockatiel in the upcoming summer. The roof would protect him from rain, plenty big enough to fly around a bit etc. The comment on how flimsy the walls were is what really put me off about this cage. I am sure they would be sturdy enough for my cockatiel but since I wanted to put it outside I need to worry about other predators who are bigger and stronger than my cockatiel.

Sorry Paula I am not sure what size you need. Do you have any of the screws that came with the cage or were they all missing?
